Jo Malone is one of Britain’s most famous fragrance brands and Malone's name has become synonymous with luxury and indulgence. Renowned for pairing unusual ingredients and creating unique fragrances she opened her first store at Walton Street in London in 1994, and by 1999 had launched her flagship store in Sloane Street. She later sold her business to Estée Lauder but Jo’s identity is still the foundation of the company and the brand's signature cream packaging with black edging remains iconic today. The history of the company and the story behind its inspirational founder fascinates me. Like most people I am a fan of Jo Malone’s fragrances partly because its so quintessentially London but also because of the unique combinations of scents. Below are a few of my favourites from the range.
Lime, Basil & Mandarin
“Our signature fragrance. Peppery basil and aromatic white thyme bring an unexpected twist to the scent of limes on a Caribbean breeze. A modern classic.”
One of the most famous fragrances by Jo Malone London this scent was something completely unique when it was first launched in 1999 and has inspired many citrus based perfumes ever since. It sounds a little peculiar if you have never experienced it, however it is a fresh and zesty fragrance perfect for those hot summer days when you are wearing white or cotton. It is an uplifting fragrance and one which is in my opinion great for both men and women.
Orange Blossom
“A shimmering garden oasis. Clementine flower sparkles over a heart of orange blossom and water lily, with warm undertones of orris and balsamic vetiver. Pure delight.”
Created in 2003, it was inspired by the romance of Spain and its beautiful gardens. I have many Orange Blossom fragrances however this scent is quite different and actually reminds me a great deal of jasmine. It is one of my absolute favourites from the collection and I would recommend it if you like floral fragrances which are not too sweet or heavy or for younger women.
Poppy & Barley
“Iconic, vibrant poppies. Dancing in colour across England’s meadows. A lively floral scent, enhanced by rose and violet and topped with juicy blackcurrants. Borrowed from the succulent cereal fields, where grains and flowers mingle, our poppies are cocooned by bran and cotton-soft barley. This inviting scent is a living landscape: where colourful poppies emblazon the rich gold harvest.”
This seems like quite an unusual mix and not a fragrance that I would immediately be drawn to. However this award winning fragrance is inviting and vibrant, launched in 2019 it won the heart of many. The combination of warm and fresh notes has universal appeal and I would recommend it for the person who is looking for something unique.
A few other fragrances which I highly recommend trying from the collection:
English Pear & Freesia
A bestseller and a fragrance which I keep going back to. Warm and inviting, English Pear & Freesia has the essence of autumn. I love the mix of pears combined with white freesias and notes of amber, patchouli and woods. This is a perfect choice if you are looking to gift a fragrance or as a transitional fragrance from summer to winter.
Magnolia & Rose
An obvious choice for me, Magnolia & Rose was a limited edition fragrance released in 2019 and one which I regret not stocking up on. It is a sensual floral fragrance with rose de mai, rose damascena, patchouli and amber. I adore both flowers and this is an unusual combination to find in a fragrance, it comes highly recommended if you like bold floral fragrances.
