Recently I was sent a wonderful package from Estée Lauder. If you’ve been following me for a while you will know I am a big fan of Estée Lauder’s Double Wear foundation and Advanced Night Repair which I have been using for many years. This wonderful package was divided into two parts, a ‘wear’ side which featured products best for a flawless full coverage make-up finish and a ‘care’ side for both coverage and care - all of the choices were pre-matched to suit my skin tone perfectly.
Its a hard choice to make right? Below I review my thoughts on both options.
Wear: Super Long 24-Hour Wear. Natural. Matte
1) Prime: The Smoother, Universal Perfecting Primer
This is a lightweight formula which optically perfects skin, diffusing the look of pores and imperfections. A wonderful primer, it really does leave your skin with a smooth, even texture. It has a velvety/powdery feeling on application and most importantly, helps to prevent foundation from sinking into any wrinkles or creases you may have (I often find concealer or foundation makes my fine lines look worse than if I was not wearing any make-up!).
Best used after moisturising, a little bit of this product does go long a way - however I do hope they bring out a bigger size in the future.
2) Wear: Double Wear, Stay in Place Make-Up SPF 10
I have reviewed this product before and I absolutely love it. One of the most popular foundations in its price range, this is a must-try product. This is a sweat-, heat- and humidity-resistant, waterproof and 24-hour colour true foundation, whilst many of us don’t need coverage for 24 hours, it does mean it will keep your make-up in place for a very long day.
My shade is 2W2 Rattan, it is a touch too dark for me in the winter but a great match for the summer months when I tan very easily. After much trial and error, I do find its best applied with your fingers rather than a sponge. It gives a nice glow as its sets and is a good base for your other products. The only point to note is that it is a heavy, matte coverage and its not the right choice if you are looking for a more natural/dewy look.
3) Conceal: Double Wear, Stay in Place Flawless Wear Concealer
With a natural matte finish, this concealer feels comfortable and lasts all day. I personally find that it does crease unless I use a very minimal amount and apply with a sponge. Overall it is a solid concealer to purchase and won’t disappoint you.
It is recommended that for darkness around eyes, go with a slightly lighter shade than your foundation. For uneven skin tone, wear the same exact shade as your foundation. My shade is 1W Light (Warm) a touch lighter than my foundation colour.
Care: Skin-Loving. Coverage & Care. Radiant Glow
1) Prime: Futurist Aqua Brilliance, Watery Glow Primer
A new product in the Estée Lauder range, I really enjoyed using this product. With over 80% skin-caring ingredients this product is a hybrid skincare/make-up product.
Futurist Aqua Brilliance is designed to deliver triple the skin’s moisture so that it keeps you moisturised throughout the day. It does keep the skin looking radiant, so much so that I loved using this product alone with no need for a foundation. I really recommend trying this out if you like a natural look and prefer to go without make-up.
2) Wear: Futurist Hydra Rescue, Moisturising Make-Up SPF 45
This product is designed to give both coverage and care. For me its pretty much the perfect product, it doesn’t clog pores, infused with Estée Lauder skincare it delivers coverage whilst allowing skin to breathe. I used this product during hot summer days and it gave a wonderful glow, even after eight or so hours. Lastly, I appreciate it having a high enough SPF that I don’t need to worry about days when I am too rushed to apply a sunscreen afterwards.
Whilst I appreciate some people may want a product that gives greater coverage, I found this to be good enough for my skin type. On balance, it has everything I look for in a foundation-type product.
3) Conceal: Double Wear, Radiant Concealer
This is a creamy, comforting concealer that is super blendable and long wearing. With a medium/full coverage it is great for covering dark circles. However, as with the Stay in Place Flawless Wear Concealer I found that it does crease. Overall, a good concealer.
So what was my verdict after trying out both ‘wear’ and ‘care’? Even though Double Wear and its partners gave a wonderful flawless look, I tend to prefer mixing skincare with light coverage - so for me its a tentative win for team ‘care’.
