On a cold March afternoon I was invited to an event with Dr Dennis Gross and his wife Carrie hosted by the Harrods Beauty team. Whilst I had heard of Dr Dennis Gross before I have never used his products and knew very little about the background of the brand so it was both an interesting and educational afternoon.
Dr Dennis Gross is a New York based dermatologist who has been practising medicine for over 25 years and is particularly well known in the U.S. for his utilisation of state-of-the-art cosmetic treatments and technology. Dr Gross is a pioneer of new and innovative ways to combat the primary signs of skin ageing, he disrupted the beauty industry in 2000 with his Alpha Beta Peel after seeing many clients come to him after having chemical peels which damaged their skin. He created a top-selling Alpha Beta range which was one of the first to harness the resurfacing and rejuvenating properties of five hydroxy acids to gently dissolve the bonds that bind dulling dead cells to skin's surface without harsh abrasives, physical exfoliants or any side-effects. The youth-boosting benefits are said to be miraculous. Carrie humorously discussed with us her first ever experience of the Alpha Beta Peel and how she knew it would be a life changing treatment for women.
The brand is celebrating its twentieth anniversary and is now well known for their easy to use at home products. A long of list celebrities are fans of Dr Gross’s treatments which are focused on making skin look great without harming it. The session with Dr Gross at Harrods spent a lot of time focusing on the science behind skincare and his emphasis on using “active ingredients” in his products which really benefit the skin.
Dr Dennis Gross products are known to be extremely powerful and cover a wide range of problems. After our session I was intrigued as to the effectiveness of the line, given Dr Gross’s medical background it seems that his products are designed and researched with a strong scientific foundation. As a long term user of prescription retinol I believe products with active ingredients really can improve skin, however I am always a little sceptical of expensive skincare products. At the end of the session we were gifted a few of Dr Gross’s products: three new products in his range: the Extra Strength Daily Peel, B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Stress Repair Face Cream, B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Stress Rescue Super Serum and the B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Stress SOS Eye Cream. My experience of using the products is below.
Extra Strength Daily Peel
I challenge you to try one of Dr Gross’s peels and not understand the hype around this range of products, the results are extraordinary and whilst they are quite expensive it is definitely worth the investment. The daily peels are amongst Dr Gross’s most famous products and there are a variety of them to chose from with different strengths and properties, its worth researching his range of products to find what suits your skin type best. Each treatment includes two single-use facial wipes soaked with a powerful cocktail of ingredients that exfoliate, brighten and even up skin tone instantly. I wasn’t expecting such a dramatic result when I tried my first peel, my skin instantly looked polished and smoother as if I had just had an expensive spa treatment. Apparently a gentle peel is one of the best things that you can do for your skin, they aren’t just about exfoliation, they change your pH to help increase collagen production. Revealing a fresh layer of skin after peeling allows it absorb vitamins, antioxidants and soothing ingredients more effectively, needless to say wearing SPF after undergoing such treatments is a must.
B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Stress Repair Face Cream
The B₃Adaptive SuperFoods are a new line of products by Dr Gross. The products combat the five signs of stress-induced ageing with Dr Gross’s B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Complex, powered by microencapsulated niacinamide, superfoods, and adaptogens. In more simpler terms, stress wreaks havoc on our skin and the ingredients of these products help skin to recover from stress. I noticed whilst using all three of these products that my skin felt tingly - most likely from the active ingredients in them.
The texture of this face cream is hydrating without being oily and is quickly absorbed by the skin. Within a few days I could visibly see that the texture of my skin had improved. Its so good that once you use it its hard to go back to using other products. My only criticism is that I wish it also contained SPF.
B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Stress Rescue Super Serum
A silky-smooth, light anti-stress serum I really enjoyed using this along with the moisturiser and eye cream. Once applied it almost feels as though there is a protective layer covering the skin. This serum has a very soothing feeling and really helps soothe stressed skin.
B₃Adaptive SuperFoods Stress SOS Eye Cream
On appearance this cream is thick and rich, however it is light and absorbs very easily into the skin and only a little is needed for each application. It tingles but that sensation soon disappears. I found that this was one of the better eye creams I’ve used as it does reduce dark circles and helps rejuvenate the delicate area around the skin.
