Launched in 2013, Charlotte Tilbury had an explosive debut in Selfridges, being one of the retailer’s biggest ever launches. Charlotte Tilbury is currently one of the most popular make-up brands and has had an impressive track record, she is well known for being a make up artist to celebrities such as Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and Amal Clooney and has had a long career in the industry prior to launching her eponymous brand. She has created campaign looks for many designers including Tom Ford, Burberry and Roberto Cavalli and has contributed covers to British Vogue. In 2015 her flagship store was opened in Covent Garden and her products are now sold in stores all around the world.
Charlotte’s rise comes at a time where personality lead make-up ranges are winning popularity with the Instagram generation and are proving to be strong competition for traditional cosmetic brands; Kylie Jenner and Rihanna’s ranges have been incredibly successful over the past few years too. During the summer of 2020 Charlotte sold a majority stake in her business to Spain’s family-owned Puig which also owns brands including Paco Rabanne, Jean Paul Gaultier and Nina Ricci in a deal which reportedly values her business at up to £1bn just seven years after she launched it.
I came across Charlotte Tilbury products a few years ago when I was looking for a natural lipstick and I have been a fan of her brand ever since. Similar to Charlotte’s make-up style, her line focusses on glamour; glowing skin, smokey eyes and enhanced lips. Her products are incredibly good and most make-up experts would recommend at least one of her cult products. I have a streamlined make-up collection, however a few of my favourite products are from Charlotte Tilbury, her line stands out for its beautiful and wearable colours, their long lasting application and old school hollywood glamour.
The below are a few of my favourites from the range.
Cheek to Chic Love Glow
A creamy, colour-rich texture blush in a pearlescent pink. Similar to the eyeshadow palette, the colour is buildable allowing you to go for something subtle to a more dramatic look. I really like the colour and often go for a pearlescent blush however I am also planning on trying the other colours in the range to find a non-pearlescent daytime look.
Pillow Talk Luxury Palette
This quartet of eyeshadows in golden pink shades is one of my make-up bag staples as it is great for both day and evening wear. It has four shimmer and matte shades, featuring champagne pink, matte dusky rose, soft matte brown and a rose gold sparkle. I tend to go for a natural look and these four colours create a polished effect whether you wear them as standalone shades or blend them. My favourite look from the palette is a light sweep of rose gold sparkle with liquid eyeliner.
Matte Revolution Pillow Talk Lipstick
Universally flattering this lipstick is one of my favourite items to wear on a daily basis. It unusually seems to work whatever your skin tone is and is a natural nude-pink shade. The texture of the lipstick for a matte formulation is not overly dry and has medium staying power so there is no need to keep reapplying it over the length of the day.
Wonderglow Face Primer
This soft focus glow primer is primarily meant to provide a canvas before applying the rest of your make-up, however I prefer to use a little bit of it by itself instead of using a foundation to give a dewy look to the skin. The formula hydrates the skin and blurs fine lines.
Charlotte’s Magic Cream
One of Charlotte’s cult products this cream was created backstage to transform models’ skin instantly. It comprises ingredients including bionymph peptide for smoother skin, hyaluronic acid for hydration and vitamins C and E for brightening dull skin. I was quite sceptical of the effectiveness of a moisturising cream created by a brand famed more for its make-up than its skincare products, however this cream does work and is reported to be one of the most popular luxury face creams in the UK. It works best in my opinion to prime your skin before applying foundation or concealer and does make your skin look instantly brighter.
